Helpful and Unhelpful sources

During research we find all sorts of sources that look good on the outside. Sometimes we have sources like this, http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/10570319809374614, that lead us nowhere or to a site that makes you buy the information. I Also found academia.edu to be very unhelpful. I did not find very many articles or information on my topic. It could just be that i was using poor choices of search words. However sometimes we find sources like this, http://www.columbia.edu/itc/eacp/japanworks/ps/japan/stimson_harpers.pdf, that are absolute gold mines and perfect primary sources.
