In “The Puritan Ethic and the American Revolution”, Edmund S. Morgan tries to argue that the reactions by the colonists to British actions leading to the American Revolution were caused by puritan ethics and morals that were either believed by, or instilled in the colonists in their upbringing. Historically we all know that the New England colonies were founded upon strict Purtian believes. However the American Revolution involved many colonies, not just those in the New England area and Morgan does not do a great job of showing the beliefs and driving reasons for revolution of the other areas. Morgan does use a lot of good primary sources though that show the direct opinions of those he references. However Morgan also does a poor job proving his argument. In my opinion he very much misreads the reason for the colonists anger towards the unjust taxation of the British government.
